DIY Entry #49: Wedding Embroidery

I tried to find matching dresses for my three friends, really I did. But the more I looked the more confused I was, and the less I felt qualified to decide for them. They are, as girls tend to be, quite different. In height, body type, and style. My maid of honor and I frequently shop together, and it’s a pretty solid rule that anything that works on her won’t on me, even if the size is right.

Happy Friday everyone!  I have another lovely Inspired Creations Contest shoot to show off today - modern and glamorous bridal fashion inspiration from the Portland team of Sara Gray Photography, Madeline Roosevelt, Amy Wing, and Serephine.  The model is Sara’s beautiful younger sister Emily who is getting married this summer!  The team wanted to incorporate sparkle without going wild, so they kept to a neutral color palette of gold, ivory, white, and silver.  A sassy sequin dress from Nordstrom, glitter heels, dramatic makeup and fabulous accessories make this a perfect look for the modern bride.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner!  For those of you still looking for some gift-giving inspiration, Beka, Kimberly, and Stephanie from Styled, formerly Innove Events, created some gorgeous gifts for their own mothers and I’m so excited that they shared their ideas with us! Each of the unique and personal gifts was created for less than $40.

Sometimes inspiration boards, well, inspire me.  And this peach pink and gold inspiration board from last week was one that I could really see building an entire wedding around.

Mmmm. You already know I adore anything DIY and anything a little bit vintage.  So I definitely did a little happy dance when I saw this gorgeous lace and crochet scarf on With This Ring…

I absolutely LOVE when bridal showers or bachelorette parties have a project, craft or activity.  This love does not extend to games, because, lets face it-bridal shower games are pretty horrific for the most part.

Hello, dear readers!  Sorry for the long break.  I’m getting ready to start up a business here in SoCal (DIY brides, let me know if you need a hand with DIY wedding flowers…it’s the basis of my biz!) so it’s been a bit crazy ’round here!

Darci from With This Ring is one of my favorite bloggers (and people)!  I’ve been so excited for her DIY series, and these fabric covered buttons are already a favorite.

Amanda at the Vintage Glam blog is holding a DIY contest and posting some beautiful entries!  I am over the moon for these positively lovely DIY wristlets and boutonnieres made from artificial flowers and other ephemera.

Anything Anthropologie! They have some beautiful, unique pieces for your bridal accessory search. I just picked up a couple of their floral hair clips, which are just too adorable for words. Not to mention, Anthropologies are so beautifully laid out that it can be a great stress reliever just to cruise through their stores, if you need some wedding planning distraction. Quite by accident I stumbled upon the Etsy shop of Titanium Knights recently and found myself rather intrigued. Somewhat ironically, M and I were just out pricing wedding bands that same day, a special consideration because the shape of my engagement ring setting is going to require a custom band. During the course of our travels he set his sights on the lightweight and simple modern appeal of titanium. His favorite pick of the day rings in at a very affordable $195, which thrilled me to no end considering my band will be a bit more expensive as it will be custom. M is very much a no frills kind of guy. He is most comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt, he’s a former athlete turned teacher and coach, and his idea of a perfect weekend is a great dinner and a day of watching football. At any rate, an expensive gold or platinum band kind of guy he is not so the titanium route seems really perfect for his tastes.

Sundays! Sigh. Such a lovely day of the week. I’m missing my hubby this week…he is studying for his board exams and wasn’t able to come with me to Colorado. A perfect Sunday would usually consist of a relaxing morning…waking up with the sunshine, and heading to the farmer’s market to pick up some fresh figs, goat cheese, and honey. How great does that sound?
