I had so much fun designing this summer citrus tabletop! I wanted to create something that was beautiful but not over-the-top; a table that could be applied to wedding and home entertaining alike, and of course, something fun and summery. Orange has long been one of my favorite wedding colors, especially for bright and vivid warm-weather events.
All of the items used are things that you can find in stores in your area – I’m especially in love with the dinner plates from the Pillivuyt Queen Anne Porcelain Dinnerware Collection from Williams-Sonoma – and I enlisted the help of the amazingly talented and creative Chicago-based floral designer Kristen of Kio Kreations to put together the gorgeous orange and yellow summer centerpiece that is the focal point of the tabletop.
My wonderful friend Olivia of Olivia Leigh Photographie captured all of these images (you can see lots more of Olivia’s work right here)!
Each place setting was made up of the following elements:
Dinner plate – Pillivuyt Queen Anne Porcelain Dinnerware Collection from Williams-Sonoma
Wine glasses – Schott Zwiesel Cru Classic Bordeaux Wine Glasses from Williams-Sonoma
Flatware – Morgan Flatware from Williams-Sonoma
Water glasses – personal collection
Napkins – Mitered Hem Napkins from Sur La Table
Napkin Rings – Maxfield Napkin Rings from Pottery Barn
To add some color to the place setting and tie in the centerpiece, I created small floral clusters to slide inside the napkin rings. A bit later today, I will be posting a little tutorial for creating these small clusters, which are also perfect for boutonnieres!
Favors were jars of orange marmalade, which doubled as “place cards”. The jars were purchased from Michael’s (for 29 cents apiece!). I created tags from Paper Source soft white card stock using my trusty tag punch, penned each name with a gold marker, and attached the tags to the jar with 1/8″ green ribbon.
I cooked for you guys! Well, sort of. While browsing Sur La Table I found Lemon Fruit Tart filling and Mini Tart Shells. Spooning filling into shells is my kind of baking! The tarts are presented on a gorgeous white earthenware Square Cake Stand from Williams-Sonoma, and I put together a small floral cluster to add detail to the display.
Gratuitous flower shots! Kristen used lady’s mantle, bay leaf, maidenhair fern, ranunculus, parrot tulips, viburnum, and spray roses to create the lush and low arrangement. I absolutely loved how it turned out!
The centerpieces and scattered citrus provided the color for the table, so linens were kept simple with a white Linen Hemstitch Table Runner from Pottery Barn.
Check back a bit later for the DIY flower napkin detail tutorial. I had such fun creating this tabletop; I hope it inspires your summer event!
