Amanda and Craig’s lovely Portland wedding has a little bit of everything – gorgeous photography by Ashley Forrette, lawn games, canoes, beautiful knit shawls and sweaters… it was a true labor of love for Amanda, Craig, and their friends and family!
Amanda handmade her beautiful fascinator out of a piece of lace from her mother’s wedding gown. She also knit Craig’s sweater vest and shawls for herself and the officiant, a family friend. Her gorgeous gown is Pronovias; she and Craig chose it together.
Together, the couple wrote a quirky secular ceremony (including a Dr. Who reference!), and had a mixed-gender wedding party. They also wrote secret letters to each other to be shared during the ceremony, a favorite memory of Amanda’s.
All of the floral arrangements were done the day before by Amanda and the wedding party with bulk flowers from a local dahlia farm. Amanda’s mother thrifted all of the vases and mason jars, and made the runners from burlap. The runners were recycled to a friend’s garden after the reception.Â
The vegan and gluten-free buffet was so yummy that even one of the vegetarians had a bite of the chicken!Â
Of her wedding, Amanda shares:
“While our wedding was not unique for blog land, it was very non-traditional as far as my family was concerned. The whole day was just so much fun. I loved watching our guests run around and enjoy themselves – every time I turned around, I saw people smiling. There were good friends who’d traveled from the other side of the country playing croquet, the flower girls cheating at bocce ball with my brother and his best friend, my uncles catching a giant fish, and my cousins determined to fly a pirate kite.
I handmade as much as I could, and left the rest behind. Friends made jewelry, did hair, arranged flowers – just to help and be supportive, without even being asked. We wanted this wedding to be a symbol of social commitment for our families and friends, as much as it reflected our values, and I am so happy how much I felt like part of a community during the entire process. It was such a fun, loving, amazing day!”
