Real Weddings: Betsy + Hunter

Betsy and Hunter’s wedding is easily one of my favorites of all.  Not only is Betsy a long-time blog friend (she writes the Sweet as a Peach blog and is one of EAD’s most loyal readers), but her wedding is classic, sweet, romantic, and has lovely Southern touches.  An amazing team of DC-area wedding vendors contributed to the day – Ritzy Bee Events flawlessly coordinated all the details, Holly Chapple created the beautiful, lush pink, white and peach florals, and Kate Headley captured all of the gorgeous images. Betsy was born in Georgia, so a Georgia Peach theme was the perfect choice for their elegant but relaxed affair.

Betsy and her mother put so much handmade love into the wedding, including building a “pick your peach” escort card station, decorating fans for the ceremony chairs, taking a letterpress course to make the wedding invitations, and creating the programs, drink stirrers, and favor bags.  Betsy’s mother was busy creating magic even on the morning of the wedding as she made the wreath to hang on the doors of the Stone Manor Country Club!

Hunter’s uncle owns a vintage 1946 Mercury coupe convertible.  Instead of simply using it as a getaway car, Betsy and her father drove up to the ceremony in it, chauffered by Hunter’s uncle.  Betsy then walked down the aisle to the orchestral theme from Little Women, her favorite film as a child.  After the ceremony, Hunter and Betsy drove away in the car.  Betsy says: “It became symbolic as I came to the ceremony in the car with my dad, and left the ceremony in the car with my new husband.”

The peach theme was pulled into all of the lovely details at the reception, including the peach escort cards, menu cards, and favors of Peach Buds candy, made in Betsy’s father’s hometown.  The signature cocktail was a Peach Mojito, Betsy’s favorite drink!  Another sweet detail: the luminaries lining the walkways from the tent are the same luminary bags that lined the steps of the church at Betsy’s parents’ wedding 30 years prior.
