Friday Flowers: Moss

Cooler weather gets us thinking of cooler color palettes. Today’s featured floral, the silver brunia, is as cool as it gets! But not only is it cool in color, it’s also modern, elegant, and has a fantastic small rounded shape. While it’s often used in pastel and white flora arrangements, it can look fantastic with more bold colors like red or yellow as well! Take a look at silver brunia used in some of our favorite bouquets!

Scabiosa pods are incredibly interesting. Sometimes referred to as the pincushion flower, its greenish-brown ball-shaped head is divided up into several smaller sections that almost resemble cupcake liners! They look gorgeous in bouquets and always add an organic feel to an arrangement. Take a look at some of our most favorite bouquets that use scabiosa pods!

Oh lilacs. So beautiful and so fragrant. I think that if everyone had a lilac bush in their yard that they could admire daily, the world would be a happier place. Truly a flower that I adore, lilacs come mostly in purples but also in white and even pink! With gorgeous texture and color, it makes for stunning florals!

Did you know that a calla lily is not actually a lily? Yup, although these sleek and sophisticated flowers are just as much a show-stopper as their namesake, they are more closely related to the Jack in the pulpit than the lily! Now that our science lesson is over, let’s look at some pretty flowers! For the most part when I see callas, the trumpet-like blooms are bundled without any greens or other flowers. Very sleek and modern, right? But when I do see them used with other flowers, their unique shape adds a whole new dimension to the arrangement. And when those stunning deep purple callas are used? Anemones are pure elegance. Perfect for a black and white wedding with their delicate white petals and bold black centers, they also come in a variety of pinks, reds and purples. Anemones are just as classy whether by themselves or with a mixture of other beautiful blooms!

Clematis is a flowering vine that you might see during the summer climbing the gate of your neighbor’s fence, someone’s light post, or even a mailbox or two! From it’s sweet white and pale pink shades which can give a soft garden feel to an arrangement, to the deep wine and burgundy shades that can be so dramatic that it looks like it could contain some deadly poison, there are many varieties. Even the vine itself is full of texture and looks great when used as greenery in arrangements! No matter which color or variety we see though, we’re absolutely in love with clematis today!

If there was nobility in the flower world, the phalaenopsis orchid would without a doubt be a part of the royal family. Stately, elegant and a bit bold, it undoubtably makes a statement wherever it is used. Check out this gorgeous collection of bouquets that we absolutely adore!

Happy Friday everyone! Today we’ll be taking a look at another unique flower: scabiosa. It is commonly called “pincushion flower” because of its pincushion-like center. It comes in different shades like white, lavender, deep purple, red and pink. Both the petals and center of the flower are very unique and can add some fantastic texture into any arrangement!

It’s officially summertime and that means it’s vacation season! The Mr. and I have chosen to vacay away from most major cities and have instead retreated to the beach in Maine where we’re surrounded by lobster, blueberries, and tons of wildflowers. Among the wildflowers are tons and tons of happy daisies which are the inspiration for today’s Friday Flowers. Whether we’re talking about mums, sweet and petite chamomile, or the straight up ones on the side of the road, there’s no happier and more carefree flower than a daisy! Queen Anne’s Lace is the ultimate romantic wildflower. It’s white, lacy, and incredibly dainty. It reminds me of taking long walks and picking wildflowers along the road during the summer and I love how it’s used in all these gorgeous bouquets and centerpieces! To me, Queen Anne’s Lace is the perfect flower for a rustic and romantic wedding.

Another under-appreciated flower in weddings (you know I love an underdog!), this weeks Friday flower gives gorgeous texture, fragrance, and fullness to any arrangement it’s in. While stock doesn’t come in every color, there are some absolutely gorgeous shades out there like lavender, magenta, deep purple, white, and even peach. It’s a thick ruffled flower with not a lot of foliage and looks great as a complement to other flowers or even when bunched all together by itself!

One of the most under-used and under-appreciated wedding flowers (at least in my opinion of course) are irises. They’re ruffled, dainty, delicate, and come in some very pretty colors! The deep purple is saturated and vibrant, the paler purpley blue ones are perfect if you want just a soft touch of color, and for you brides going all-white out there, why not let the slightest hint of yellow peek out of the center of some white irises! In any color, iris petals give texture, movement, and dimension, while the yellow center adds an unexpected pop of color. Check out these gorgeous bouquets and the variety of ways irises are used!

Elegant + woodsy = pure romance, and that’s exactly what we have here this afternoon in this shoot inspired by the one and only Snow White. April Foster Events and The Empty Vase teamed up to create a tablescape filled with decadent red, elegant gold, and natural moss elements that is exactly what I imagine if Ms. White was able to sneak away for a romantic weekend in the woods. Fairy tales are all the rage right now and lots of candied apples, mushrooms, and even dwarf details fill the shoot. I love, love, love the red and gold invitations by Jupiter and Juno! When I was growing up, there were 3 crabapple trees that grew along our driveway. One of my absolute favorite times of the year was when all three of them were full of white and pink blooms, saturating the air with their sweet smell. It was a sad day when the last of the tiny blooms fell to the ground and I realized I’d have to wait another whole year before enjoying them again. Ever since then, I’ve never been able to get enough of flowering spring trees, whether crabapple, cherry, dogwood, or apple, and now I absolutely adore the idea of using these sweet blooms as florals for a wedding!

Working with the fall color palette of amber, gold, saffron and chocolate, Kelly Marie of Fleur and Heather of Greatest Expectations pulled from the in-the-moment trend of beer and hops to style a shoot that is the perfect combination of modern and rustic.  With custom stationery and the cutest vintage beer bottle labels from Lily Red Studio, a mouthwatering menu (a charcuterie and cheese station!) from Pure Kitchen Catering, a beautiful bridal look from The Left Bank, and the fabulous raw space at Architectural Anarchy, every little detail was thoughtfully presented.  And don’t even get me started on the amazing desserts from Truffle Truffle – including an out of this world 4-tier truffle cake!  It was impossible to narrow down the gorgeous images by Amanda Hein, so run over to see ALL of the eye candy in the gallery!

I’m so excited to show off today’s Inspired Creations Contest idea – it’s retro, vintage, and fresh!  The Chicago team of Jaclyn Simpson Photography, Fleur, and Lily Red Studio created an intimate brunch wedding setting full of scrumptious pancakes and french toast kebabs, on a tabletop set with a handsewn runner, glittering crystal votive holders, and lush blooms. The honey, peach, and tangerine color palette is warm and sweet, and honey dipper favors are the perfect favor.  There are just so many little details to obsess over, so run over and see even more of the images in the gallery!

We have another gorgeous DIY project for you today! Rafters of Cedars creates some of the most gorgeous chuppas we’ve ever seen and we’re incredibly lucky that Diana has shared this tutorial on how to create your own monogrammed embroidery hoops. They would be lovely as an accent piece at weddings, anniversaries, or also in children’s rooms.

We’re absolute suckers for wedding details filled with sparkling gold and dramatic berry red and pink tones, so we fell in love with this collaboration between Hannah Suh Photography and Amanda O’Shannessy Creative. Wow! The gold gown with a corset top is glamorous, especially in the woodsy setting of Kunde Family Estate in Sonoma, California, and we love the tulle skirt and booties, too—Head Over Heels With Melanie created stunning fashions for this inspiration shoot. The winteresque arrangements of deep reds, purples, and pinks paired with berries and pomegranates is genius, thanks to the fab team at Huckleberry Karen Designs. And how gorgeous is the cake by Sift on a vintage stand, surrounded by other antique decor from One True Love Vintage Rentals? We can’t take our eyes off of all the gorgeousness in the gallery!

There’s so much sparkly goodness in this styled shoot from Chancey Charm and Inga Finch Photography. First, let’s talk about the stunning Temperley London dress—the beading and cutouts are simply amazing! Allie of Honey Bee Invites created such pretty stationery, with a turquoise watercolor cityscape motif, that plays off the shoot’s location at The Biltmore Ballrooms in downtown Atlanta. We love the green details—a nod to Pantone’s color of the year—in florals by Stylish Stems and the gorgeous earrings from C. Wonder.

How fun is this pink-red, white, and blue shoot from Heather Roth Fine Art Photography? Just in time to celebrate Presidents Day, Becky Huffman Flowers and Kristin Ashley Events joined forces to bring us these vintage Americana wedding ideas. Ticking-striped linens and lush pink, blue, and white flowers fill a rustic but sophisticated table that softly chants USA! We absolutely want to steal the bouquet idea—shades of pink, blue, and white wrapped in silk and tied with a trail of ribbon streamers. A rustic dessert table filled with treats from Britt Beaugard is picture-perfect in front of an old barn. By far our favorite part is the fashion: Bella Bridesmaid dresses paired with a vintage peach frock with a tulle skirt—simply fab! Happy Presidents Day!
