Elizabeth and Bill woke up on the morning of their October wedding to clear blue skies and warm temperatures–the perfect day for their perfect celebration! The rolling hills of Jonathan Edwards Winery in North Stonington, CT set the scene for their romantic, interfaith ceremony, which incorporated both Catholic and Jewish traditions and vows the couple wrote themselves. Hana Floral Design, True Event, and Ryan Designs worked with Elizabeth and Bill to create a timelessly elegant tented reception with crystal chandeliers, lanterns, and a family-style communal feast. On their second date, the couple bonded over a shared love of good food and wine, and their wedding was an opportunity to share all of their favorites with their nearest and dearest. Russell Morin Catering & Events outdid themselves with a menu that included lobster rolls, bacon-wrapped dates, Momofuku-style pork buns, and Bill’s wedding must-have: pigs in a blanket with spicy mustard. Elizabeth shares “The entire day was exactly what we wanted – a celebratory ode to our relationship with all of those we love.” We are positively spellbound by the pure love and happiness glimped in each image from Erin McGinn Photography!
How did you select your venue?
Everyone who knows Bill and me know that we love to indulge in good food and wine. Bill won me over when on our second date, he took me to one of the best restaurants in the West Village — L’Artusi – and suggested that we order a bunch of plates and share everything. He ordered an inordinate amount of food for just two people and this became the first of a million feasts we’d share together. As soon as we got engaged, we looked at our wedding as an opportunity to share in our favorite things with the people we love most and to give our friends and family a glimpse at why we love each other. This, coupled with our desire to hold a romantic, interfaith ceremony outside on a vineyard, a special place to us, led us to find Jonathan Edwards Winery in North Stonington, CT. We fell in love with the intimate grounds, the beautiful New England-style winery and the opportunity that the blank space of the vines and the Sperry tent gave us to craft our black tie wedding from the grass up.
Describe your wedding flowers.
The flowers were one of our favorite components of our wedding. We knew instantly that we wanted to work with Yumiko Fletcher of Hana Floral Design. We loved the organic, natural style that she brings to all of her work and knew that we wanted those feelings invoked at our event. We chose a natural and neutral color palette to pop against the vibrant autumn colors we hoped would be alive for us and to contrast with the rustic touches of the vineyard. To anchor our interfaith ceremony, we had a gorgeous chuppah/altar structure with drapery, silver dollar eucalyptus, and a scattering of lanterns and blush and ivory rose petals throughout the aisle. The whole thing was incredibly romantic amongst the vines.
Do you have any memories or stories to share?
I remember just being completely at ease throughout the day. Spending the morning getting ready and sipping prosecco with my closest girlfriends, as aunts and friends stopped by our room, was just so much fun. Getting to the winery and finally seeing Bill in the vines felt like the real beginning of the day.
Heartbeat Dance Band gave the evening an incredible energy that kept our guests on their feet throughout the reception, and we ended the evening with an after party (complete with late night sliders) at the incredibly cute Engine Room in downtown Mystic, a bar that reminded us of being in our own neighborhood in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
I loved looking around the whole night and seeing our friends and family dancing and singing and drinking with each other. The height of this was definitely during the hora when everyone was linking arms and dancing in circles with the people around them in what looked like complete joy and happiness. Erin McGinn captured these moments – and all the others – so authentically and beautifully.
