Romantic Historical Wedding Inspiration

Seattle’s gorgeous historical Rainer Chapter House was modeled after George Washington’s Mt. Vernon home in Virginia. It contains a multitude of antique furniture and framed portraits that have the effect of bringing you back in time to the late 18th century, and this shoot photographed by Audrey Norman Photography effortlessly blended the classical venue with current trends. A neutral color palette of champagne, ivory, blush, and gold melded with the ornate interior, and pops of texture created a soft feel, especially when paired with romantic candlelight on the elegant tabletop with a ruched cheesecloth runner. Botanique Flowers styled a warm and inviting centerpiece with warm peach and sage tones, and The Sweet Side designed a cake with square tiers embellished with ivory flowers inspired by the Pronovias gown from Labelle Salon. Every sophisticated detail in the design by Pacific Engagements beautifully mixes classic and contemporary – we are completely smitten!

Inspired by the colors of Charleston, this stunning editorial for The Film Gathering features a color palette of shades of pink and purple, sprinkled with pops of marigold – soft and whimsical, but refined. With the majestic oaks of Middleton Place as the backdrop, the design team of Magnolia & Grace Events and Lindsay Bishop Events created an enchanting sweetheart table with luxe velvet linens, vintage gold flatware, auburgine taper candles, and a large cascading compote centerpiece. The result is absolutely breathtaking! We adore how this shoot mixes modern touches (those shoes!) with classic elements (that vintage car!) for a completely unique and timeless look! The historical Vinoy in St Petersburg is a throwback to old Florida, and a dreamy setting for a classic wedding! Michelle and Colton chose to hold their ceremony in the lush tea garden, its fountain dripping in garlands from Marigold Flower Co, and then treated their guests to a gorgeous reception in the ballroom, where the blush and gold palette beautifully balanced the architecture. From the letterpress invitations by Olivia Grace Paperie to the images captured on film by The Ganeys, every detail is timeless and chic!

Ashley and Alan’s elegant wedding at DeLille Cellars took full advantage of the natural beauty of their Washington locale. The couple immediately fell in love with the lush garden and charming pond, as well as the European villa inspired chateau. Holly of Perfectly Posh Events worked with the couple to design a timeless event with a delicate and airy feel. A color palette of blush, pale peach, and white beautifully blended with lush greenery in their tented reception with florals by Sugar Pine. Ashley was drawn to classic and feminine gowns, and selected a fitted Inbal Dror gown with lovely lace detailing, while her bridesmaids donned floaty pale blue Amsale dresses. Kelsea and Joseph pictured “greenery and lights and dancing under the stars” for their wedding day, and their love of the outdoors led them to Fort Worth’s Heart of the Ranch. Nestled along the Trinity River and with a canopy of trees, it was the perfect setting for their romantic soiree. They were married under stunning floral arch from R Love Floral, and their tented reception featured cascading florals on the head table, a donut wall, and the most perfect greenery chandelier above the dance floor! There was even a beer wall where custom monogrammed cups set as favors. A subtle golf theme (Joseph is a golf lover!) played throughout, with a golf bag groom’s cake, flag escort cards, and even lawn games including a golf-themed cornhole game. Elena and Jonathan’s wedding vision was “Grace Kelly does New Orleans” and wow, did they deliver! With classic, timeless elements inspired by her grandmother’s wedding and a palette of soft blues and mustard yellow, their New Orleans wedding at Maison Montegut pays homage to their families while creating a chic and sophisticated atmosphere. Emily Sullivan Events made sure the day went off without a hitch, and Poppy and Mint created florals with vibrant pops of yellow to accent the fresh greenery of the courtyard reception. Their day is beautifully captured by Mon Soleil Weddings!

We just want more and more of this Texas wedding shoot by ML Photo & Film! We can’t get enough of those sky high magnolia trees and the ultra-southern Woodbine Mansion sitting pretty in the background. To our heart’s delight, Eclipse Event Co. wanted to keep the style fresh and sweet as tea, with the always-classic white and ivory paired with cornflower blue accents along with hints of gold in the cutlery and peach linens. The medium powdery blue certainly stood out on the sprawling manor’s grounds, tying everything together to result in an epic rendition of “southern charm”. This one is certainly for the Pinterest boards!

Elegant, romantic, and colorful perfectly describes Tara and Georg’s wedding at Sarasota’s sophisticated Field Club. The couple lived in Italy for a time, and added some subtle Tuscan vibes to their Florida soiree. Working with Nicole of NK Productions (which Tara describes as “the best decision we ever made”), Tara and Georg created a romantic setting with stunning florals by Victoria Blooms that featured large coral peonies, olive leaf, and blush garden roses. Our favorite detail? The entrance fountain overflowing with lush florals! Petite bottles of olive oil served as place cards and favors, atop french blue linens and set next to table numbers hand-drawn by Tara’s maid of honor, labeled as their favorite Italian cities. With a stunning and vibrant color palette of mustard, floral, and gray, this fabulous team of Florida wedding pros created a romantic and whimsical shoot set at Cypress Grove Estate. Inspired by the gorgeous mustard color of a Jenny Yoo bridesmaid gown, Tickled Pink Brides and Casie Marie Photography designed a classic soiree perfect for any season. Andi Mejia created an invitation suite with dove gray typography and illustration of the estate, and Bakers Cottage Cakes made a breathtaking yellow cake with whimsical edible flowers. Inspired by antique designs and the muted tones of the British landscape, this elegant shoot at Kent’s Bradbourne House is quiet, gentle, and romantic. The Timeless Stylist used the ornate paneling, large windows, and architectural elements as inspiration, bringing in neutral tones, soft textures, and a stunning Ersa Atelier gown. Catherine Short Floral Design created soft, neutral florals, and a chic, modern cake from Little Cake Garden accompanied miniature cakes at each place setting. The gorgeous Armour House mansion, set just outside of Chicago, inspired this elegant and romantic inspiration shoot conceptualized and photographed by Alexandra Lee Photography and planned by Jordan of Events by JVB. Loose, organic florals by Fleur Couture accentuated the blush, mauve, and greenery color palette, and a showstopping hand-painted cake from The Quintessential Cake and Paper Love Club completed the scene. The result: spectacular!

Susan and Riley fell in love with La Quinta, California on a post-engagement mini-moon, and knew it would be the perfect place to tie the knot! Working with All Things Extraordinary as they planned from afar in Chicago, they selected a private estate surrounded by mountains, palm trees, and cacti for their elegant “backyard” wedding with a buffet-style taco dinner! Their desert chic soiree was a three-day affair and the party carried all the way from the margarita karaoke welcome party by the pool to the spectacular reception where guests danced the night away under twinkle lights and the desert stars. Mix and match Jenny Yoo and Lulu’s bridesmaids dresses in a palette of sage and slate were a nod to the natural surroundings, and greenery garlands graced the long wood reception tables. Warm fall colors, ethereal details, and enchanting florals combine to make this one of the most stunning autumn inspiration shoots ever! Buttery shades of caramel in the florals from Thorne and Thistle were accented by subtle pops of fall oranges and pinks. Christina Sloan Events created a scene inspired by personal details, such as the family crests on hand-lettered stationery by Alex Fly Designs, handmade paper by Tara Spencer and the blue marble cake by Cakes by Kim. With any outdoor wedding ceremony in Florida you have to have a rain plan, which was the case for Taylor and Jacob’s Alfond Inn wedding. What was meant to be a garden style ceremony on the lawn, was moved into the atrium due to weather. But, that didn’t stop the garden vibes.

Tuscan meets tropical at this Bok Tower Gardens wedding inspiration shoot. Located in Lake Whales, Florida, Bok Tower Gardens boasts historic landmarks and treasured architecture, secluded in lush gardens. Acres of ferns, palms, oak and pine trees and flowering foliage provide a serene and naturally beautiful setting that allows for the tile mosaics, sculptures, carvings and custom ironwork of Bok Tower to stand out for its own beauty. The vision of this wedding inspiration shoot was understated elegance. From the natural vibe of the paper goods crafted by Love Offering, to the palette of neutrals and dainty touches of gold, the entire design was dreamt up to exist in harmony with the serene setting rather than compete with it for attention.

This editorial captured by XO and Fetti Photography is inspired by the song “La Paloma,” written in 1961 by Sebastian Iradier. The Spanish melody feels romantic and ethereal, this editorial matched the song with soft details and a real couple with lots of charm. In this editorial, the bride is “La Paloma” returning messages of love to her heritage, reconnecting with her culture, the history and the art.

A backdrop of verdant green climbing ivy and dreamy painterly florals would play a muse for any impressionist artist, so it’s no wonder that Indigo Event Design chose the stunning gardens and chateau of Monet Vineyards for this Claude Monet-inspired shoot. BLUE Floral Company created a pastel rainbow of locally-sourced florals to paint the outdoor ceremony space and stunning bouquet that is worthy of Monet’s brush itself. Lush centerpieces of coral and butter yellow peonies, lavender scabiosa, and dusty blush roses sit atop a french blue table, with just the right touch of regal elegance from gold flatware and chargers. Romantic and intimate, these photos by RTFaith Photography prove that even a micro-wedding can be a fairytale wedding too!

Holly and Jacob chose the beautiful Grandeur House for their fall wedding and the all-white farmhouse was the perfect backdrop to highlight all of the personal details they chose for their event. Dusty blue tablescapes were warmed by centerpieces from A Pocket Full of Posies in hues of rust, burgundy, and orange, reflecting the fall foliage outside, and Holly’s mother used stained glass from churches hit by Hurricane Katrina to make beautiful glass flowers for the tables. Small magnolia and Japanese red maple trees were even placed in the space for the evening but then brought to the couple’s home to be planted as a memory of their big day! They did an amazing job incorporating family heirlooms into their celebration while also creating new heirlooms and Jessica Brown Photography captured each of those details perfectly!

Any way you spin the color green in a wedding palette, it is quite the versatile shade. From soft pastels like mint or sage to deep hues like the beautiful emerald or hunter green, you can easily use this earthy color at any wedding during any time of the year if you fancy it. It’s so timeless and we’re glad that wedding extraordinaires like Olive Fine Weddings & Events and Alexandra Lee ran on the same wavelength as us. This styled shoot has a hefty helping of green all over it, and if you take out the seemingly wintry elements to this inspo, you can readily use it all throughout the year. The luxe blooms by Willrett Flower Co. (check out the installation framing the sweetheart table!) may need some tweaking when it comes to what’s in season and what’s in your area, but no matter if you’re a spring or summer bride-to-be eyeing this shade of green, you’ll certainly get the same gorgeous effect that Alexandra snapped for us.

The beautiful Chateau de Montgobert is the backdrop for this exquisite French chateau wedding inspiration from Romain Vaucher. On the edge of the forest of Retz, this gorgeous estate dates from the eighteenth century. Its whitewashed woodwork and large windows are wonderfully highlighted by the romantic florals by Histoires Sauvages. Modern tableware from Rêveries et Bois, linens from Le Temps File, and organic stationery by Delicate Paper pair perfectly with the peach and rose gold palette, and a petite cake from Chez Maman is decorated with a light sprig of greenery. Sarah Sautret accented a contemporary and sophisticated wrap dress from designer Stephanie Wolff with natural makeup and loose waves.
