Kathleen and Joey’s grandparents grew up across the street from each other, so it was perhaps destiny that these two were meant to be together! They both come from large, Irish Catholic families, and knew they wanted to keep their wedding close to home. Their traditional Catholic ceremony was held at the church were Kathleen attended grade school, and their reception was at the North Shore Country Club where both of their families belong. The November nuptials gave a nod to beautiful fall tones and greenery, while also keeping things classic and elegant. Kathleen donned an elegant Carolina Herrera gown, with the same diamond barrette worn by each of her sisters on their wedding days – a gift from their grandmother. We adore this timeless day and know you’ll fall in love with the images from Julia Franzosa Photography!
In their own words
How did you meet?
Joey and I have known of each other for basically our whole lives – his grandmother and my grandfather grew up across the street from each other on the south side of Chicago. Both families ended up moving to the North Shore and we would see each other around town. We are a few years apart and never went to any of the same schools. But, Joey’s younger sister was dating (at they time, they are now married as well!) one of my best guy friends from high school. Once the timing was right, they encouraged Joey to ask me on a date. Turns out, we had both actually had crushes on each other for a long time!
What is your proposal story?
Because we both come from such big families (and everyone knows each other!) after the success of our first date, both of us knew we wanted to end up together. Joey proposed a few days short of our one year “dating anniversary.” I love to go on walks with my three sisters. During one of those Sunday walks, Joey happened to be waiting for us in a park on the route. Both of our families were in on it, and I had absolutely no idea.
What were your favorite parts of the day?
Since we come from such large families, we wanted everyone to be in the same room and all under one roof. Seeing the tent complete and filled with all of our family and closest friends is something we will never forget.
