Megan wanted a destination wedding and Stephen, a local Chicago soiree, so they compromised by choosing Kohler, Wisconsin’s stunning Whistling Straits for their June nuptials. Any Midwesterner knows that the weather in June in Wisconsin can be a toss-up, and though the day started out gloomy and misting, right in time for the ceremony the skies cleared and the sun appeared! When thinking of their wedding style, Megan and Stephen knew that they wanted simple elegance, and their choices reflected that vision. Wooden tables and farmhouse chairs graced the stone reception room, with glimmering candles and swaths of greenery. The result was a chic and sophisticated wedding with timeless images from Jenna Marie Photography that we know they’ll forever treasure!

In their own words
What is your proposal story?
We knew we were close to getting engaged, but I hadn’t found any rings I really liked for ideas to give Stephen. One night, on our way to see Hamilton, we stopped by a jeweler to get ideas, turns out Stephen knew the jeweler and i unknowingly designed my own ring. The proposal came a month later while we were on a trip to Iceland. Stephen proposed on a black sand beach on the coast of Iceland, he had even arranged a photographer to capture everything. We spent the rest of the day taking photos with the photographer at scenic spots with him acting as our local tour guide. We ended the day celebrating while watching the northern lights.
Tell us a little a bit about your wedding.
The wedding location was actually a compromise between a local Chicago wedding and a destination wedding. I wanted a destination wedding while the groom wanted the traditional Chicago wedding – whistling straits was the perfect compromise. The vision for our day was simple elegance. When planning we knew we wanted to look back at the photos and not say “what were we thinking?!” we also wanted to play on the simple beauty that whistling straits and lake Michigan offer.
What were your favorite parts of the day?
Our venue was outdoors at the beginning of June in Wisconsin meaning the weather can be great or awful. The day started out gloomy and misting, but right in time for the ceremony the clouds opened up and the sun came out. The rain also held off until everyone was inside dancing the night away. During the ceremony a swarm of gnats came out of nowhere and swarmed my dress. Stephen, trying to be the gentleman he is, tried to get the bug off me before it could bite, but instead ended up killing the bug on my dress in the middle of a reading. Nothing a little club soda couldn’t get out!
