Meg and Ned envisioned their Connecticut wedding to be simple and elegant and with their fête being held in the middle of summer indoors, the possibilities were truly endless for them; which meant that Cassi Claire Photography was going to be in photography heaven with the amount of subjects to photograph. Shore Haven Golf Club was transformed with delicate colors and throughout the venue, a soft pale pink with the ever-popular complimentary colors of gold, white, gray, and navy blue were dotted all throughout. The key to really executing a plethora of colors together is to keep the palette simple, starting with an overall, main color that works effortlessly with the rest of them (like what Meg and Ned did with white). Utilize the rest of the color choices and pepper them all over the wedding in various areas. The blooms by Flowers by Justine were perfectly pink and white with a mix of gray planters and tall gold column stands and the groom and groomsmen were dapper in blue. A four-or-five color palette can be daunting, but with a little know-how and creativity, the shades will harmoniously work well together.
In their own words
How did you meet?
Believe it or not, Ned and I met in the 5th grade. We didn’t start dating until we were seniors in college but remained close friends through out middle and high school. If Ned had his way we would have started dating a lot sooner! We started dating around October 2011 while I was visiting him at his college. I was home from my college in Rhode Island to take the Connecticut teacher certification exams. The testing center was in the same town where Ned’s college was. He invited me out with his friends and the rest is history! I think it took us longer to start dating because I finally realized what a nice and genuine guy he is and was ready to settle down for something more serious. He is not only my husband now but my best friend!
What is your proposal story?
I totally knew it was coming. Ned had been acting weird for months and I knew something had to be in the works. We had a trip planned to Savannah and Charleston for my spring break (I am a teacher) and I had a pretty good idea that it would happen there I just wasn’t sure in which city and what day!! Ned carried the ring around on all of our sight seeing adventures and guarded that backpack with his life. In Savannah, we bought pralines at one of the candy stores and I went to put the candy in his backpack while it was still on his back and he swung that backpack around so fast I couldn’t even get my hand on the zipper. He claimed he was worried about an expensive camera that he had rented for the trip but really it was the ring! He would also hide the backpack before we would leave the AirBnB for dinner so I was very skeptical.
It finally happened on March 22, 2017 at Boone Hall Plantation in Charleston, SC (Allie’s summer home in The Notebook!). Even though I knew it was coming it was still perfect. He got down on one knee in a pretty garden outside the main house of the plantation. The big surprise was he flew us home to CT instead of back to FL where we were living at the time. He planned a surprise engagement party with all our friends and family which was amazing.
What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?
The photos were the most important to us because they are all you have left after the day is over! We chose to splurge on our photos. We decided to skip favors for the guests.
What were your favorite parts of the day?
Our favorite parts were leaving the church as a married couple and greeting all our family and friends in the receiving line. We also loved dancing the night away on the dance floor surrounded by all our favorite people. I loved getting my hair and makeup done and enjoying champagne and breakfast with my best girls, mom, and mother in law. I spent so much time and effort planning the wedding that I loved seeing my vision all come together!
Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?
Try to enjoy the planning process as much as you can. It can be stressful and overwhelming but before you know it, it’s all over!
