Chic Destination Wedding in Mexico

Although their original plan was to get married in Salt Lake City, as soon as Lindsay and Danny stepped foot into the lobby of Cabo Azul Resort in Los Cabos, Mexico, they knew by the look in each other’s eyes that they had found a new plan. Guests enjoyed smaller gatherings leading up to the big day, relaxing by the pool and sipping margaritas, and when the time came to exchange vows, the couple said “I do” in a beautiful open air cathedral looking out over the ocean. The couple snuck away with Shannon Elizabeth Photography at sunset for some of the dreamiest beach portraits ever and you’re going to want to see all the magic (like that amazing Maggie Sottero gown!), so check out the full gallery and video below!

In their own words

How did you meet?

We met through a friend that I served with in Europe. Him and I were out at an OAR concert in Salt Lake City, and he said he knew a girl that I should meet. I said to call her up, so he did and told Lindsay and her friends to meet up with us after the concert, to which they agreed. As soon as she walked through the door, I knew I had to talk to her, I didn’t even know it was the girl my friend had told to meet us, I walked straight over and introduced myself. I made her dinner for our first date and that was it, eighteen months later we were engaged.

What is your proposal story?

I had had the ring for a few months, searching for the right opportunity. I’m sure Lindsay knew that it was coming, but I still wanted to make it a surprise, make it special. Well, Valentine’s Day was fast approaching, and I knew there was no way I could make it past that day without presenting a ring, so Valentine’s Day it was. The day before, I went to her favorite lodge in Deer Valley, told them the plan, asked them to have the fires outside going, and the snow cleared so she wouldn’t slip in her heels. I tipped the concierge, and picked out the champagne. I called two of her friends to film, with the caveat that they could not be seen, and thus spoil the surprise. “We will be as ninjas,” they said. The day arrived, and I got Lindsay outside on the deck overlooking the ski resort, the snow was brushed and the fires were high. On cue, a horse-drawn sleigh pulled up and it began to snow. I saw the shadows of the ninjas flicker briefly in the fire light, I got down on one knee, told her that I loved her, and asked her to marry me. As she smiled so big, tears starting to flow, she threw her arms around me with so much joy and asked me what took me so long, and then a resounding yes.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

On our scouting trip to Cabo, we had had such an amazing time experiencing the local culture and cuisine, that we wanted out loved ones to experience the same. We planned a dinner with Lindsay’s family at a lovely farm to table restaurant, dinner with Danny’s family at a seaside resort, and dinner with our friends at an amazing oasis in the desert. We planned our rehearsal dinner at the best Mexican restaurant that we’ve ever eaten at, on a Thursday night in San Jose del Cabo, when a local art walk enchanted our guests with the local’s passions.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

Taking pictures on the beach, backlit by an amazing sunset, and then dancing the night away with all of our favorite people.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Just do what feels right. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be what’s best for the two of you.
