Christian and Kayleigh met senior year of college through a friend and bonded over their love of sports. This love and friendship culminated in a dreamy proposal overlooking the New York City skyline. They originally planned a 250-person wedding, which they decided to alter down to only 34 guests because of the pandemic. By hosting just immediate family and wedding party, they were able to have all guests masked, as well as tested before and after the event, prioritizing safety. When it came to their wedding day, they were inspired to make the wedding all about them as a couple and what made them unique. For a timeless and elegant look, they chose a neutral color palette that allowed their love to shine. They love the show ‘How I Met Your Mother’, so included several subtle nods to the show throughout. For even more personalization, the Chuppah was covered by Kayleigh’s Tillet (shoulder covering) from her Bat Mitzvah. Scroll to see all the perfect details captured by Amy Kolo!
In their own words
How did you meet?
Christian and I met senior year of college at Muhlenberg college in Allentown, PA through a mutual friend and mutual love for sports.
What is your proposal story?
We got engaged in 2019 in Hoboken, New Jersey overlooking the New York City Skyline. I grew up in New Jersey.
Tell us a little a bit about your wedding (your vision, color, style, and location choices).
I was inspired to make the wedding all about US and things that made us “US”. Together, we LOVE the show ‘How I Met Your Mother’, so we snuck in things from the show in our wedding. We focused on making it about what made us happy!
Tell us about your attire choices.
I wore a white A-line gown and Christian wore a black suit. We had our bridal parties in all black-wanted a very classic look. I absolutely loved every pair of my shoes! I wore glitter booties to the rehearsal dinner, bow heels and Air Force 1 sneakers to the wedding!
What were your favorite parts of the day?
Christian wrote me the most beautiful note to be delivered to my room the morning of the wedding. It came with a yellow umbrella (again, another thing from How I Met Your Mother). I loved our first dance- It was to Homegrown by Zac Brown Band and the band we hired, hired a Zac Brown Band cover artist to come and sing it for us. My mother and I did a Mother-Daughter dance- wanted to break some gender norms :)
Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?
Our signature cocktail was the ‘Marshall Mule’ after our dog named Marshall (also from How I Met Your Mother). I loved our Chuppah (jewish tradition to get married underneath one), as it was covered by my Tillet (shoulder covering) from my Bat Mitzvah.
Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?
Do it and make it about you. Do not plan for anyone else but yourself- choose your own details and the things that are going to make your day the best it can be.
