Lilac Love Inspiration in Alberta

A sunny spring day and a beautiful bride and groom to be made for the ultimate romantic wedding day. Add in our favorite spring bloom, the lilac, and voila, we are in love. Nestled in at the stunning 52 North Venue in Sylvan Lake, Rhonda of Creative Edge Flowers designed a display of spring branches and blooms to envelope the vintage bone white sofa from Orange Trunk Vintage Rentals, creating a space of beauty that our bride to be, Christina felt comfortable to be herself in for her pre wedding bridal boudoir session. Keeping her natural beauty, Christina wore her hair long with romantic loose curls, a sweet long camisole and robe from The Bra Lounge, locally handmade earrings by Erin at Shop 23 and carried bows of lilacs in a hand woven basket from Crafting The Harvest. The extravagant amethyst engagement ring from Alberta Diamond Exchange stole the show.

As the bride donned a gown, our photographer captured portraits in the lush floral setting. The gown, with its sheer detachable sleeves was pure romance and also made an appearance in the couple’s venue portraits later in the day. Later in the day, as our couple prepared for their ‘I do’s’, the floral altar was created to envelope the couple and their love. The wedding ceremony gown from Novia Mia Bridal had a beaded and embroidered fitted bodice, with a long train. Our groom, Bobby, looked dashing in his soft grey wedding suit provided by Black Knight Tuxedo.

The reception styling spared no floral, with both real and sugar flowers atop the stunning two tiered pure white wedding cake by Yvonne’s Delightful Cakes. Alongside the cake, on the vintage brass bar cart, were handmade chocolate treats in the shape of hearts in the colour of lilac, and lilac infused champagne in the vintage crystal cut champagne coupes. Both the guest and sweetheart table designs began with pure white layered place settings with vintage purple and diamond cut glasswares. Arrangements in low vessels and bud vases created another incredible floral display. The mix of romantic and lush florals, with vintage furniture and decor blended beautifully with the venue’s industrial style.

We are simply blown away at the gorgeous images by Tess Lucas Photography. The fresh locally grown lilacs and wild cherry blossoms created the most amazing altar for the couple’s ceremony, but also provided an incredible backdrop to their portraits, reception area, and even on the cake. Filled in with roses, carnations and many other beauties in our shades of lilac, white and cherry pink. The florals have to be our most favorite part of the design. Lilacs are my most favorite flower, too being able to create a wedding design with them as our main flower, color and scent was a dream. Creating a day filled with locally grown and wild blossoms highly depends on the seasons in your particular area of the country.

In Alberta, wild blossom season varies from early to late May, so having a brilliant florist to help you navigate the seasons in your area is our secret tip for you! We froze lilac buds in ice spheres to add that special lilac touch to the champagne coupes. Always check that the florals you are using are edible before using them in beverages or food. Lilacs are part of the olive family, so they are edible, and so pretty in ice. ” We had our couple head over to Sylvan Lake for a secondary ceremony location for private vows. Christina changed into a fitted silk gown from Rose & Delilah and Bobby rolled up his pant legs and they walked & played together through the warm water. The reflection of the light on the lake was glowy and ethereal, it was a romantic sunset finish to a beautiful, inspirational day.
