Dreamy Black Tie and Modern Wedding

Matt and Emily’s wedding at Hayfields Country Club was the epitome of a modern black-tie affair. As a talented wedding planner herself, Emily designed her dream wedding down to the last detail, and the result was nothing short of spectacular. With a sophisticated color palette of pure white, black, and gold accents, every element was flawlessly executed to create a truly elegant celebration. This dreamy event was a perfect blend of modern style and timeless romance, showcasing Emily’s impeccable planning skills and vision for the day.

How did you meet?

We met at a New York City bottomless brunch!

What is your proposal story?

We fell in love in New York City, and spent a lot of time getting to know each other in Central Park. Once Matt & Emily moved to Santa Monica for their next adventure, Matt knew he still had to ask Emily to marry him in their favorite spot in Central Park, right along the water. Later they went out to dinner & had cocktails on a rooftop with their closest family & friends.

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding

The vision for wedding day was an iconic celebration with their friends & family. Emily, being a wedding planner & bride-to-be, was hoping for a dreamy, black tie affair. The color palette consisted of pure white, black, & gold with a light & airy aesthetic. We got married in Emily’s hometown along a golf course, as Matt is a huge golfer.

Tell us about your attire choices.

I wanted a fairytale day, so I went for a ballgown dress for the ceremony. For the reception, I changed into a babydoll nude & white lace Vera Wang dress, that screamed Emily! Emily’s girls wore chic, black dresses while Matt & his guys wore black tuxes.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

It was important for us to share our love story through the details. We had our signature cocktail named after our golden retriever, Normand, and our guest tables after our favorite coffee shops since we are huge cold brew fanatics. We splurged on an escort display that said “Find Your Roast and Let’s Toast!” with espresso shots for everyone going into dinner.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

Our favorite part was reading our vows to each other during the ceremony, listening to all the heartfelt speeches, and getting ready with my girls in the morning drinking champagne!

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

Peonies, orchids, baby’s breath, and white roses – all white with a Californian-coastal vibe.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

Lemon cake with raspberry preserve and chocolate cake with a mocha filling and buttercream icing. 4 tiers with fresh blooms down the cake.

What did you do for favors?

Berger cookies as they are a local Baltimore treat!

Please describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.

All of our signage was DIY!

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

My necklace was my Nana’s and because she was not able to be with me that day, it was very special to me.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Enjoy the process and book your vendors quick!
