Today, I spent a blissful hour not trying on wedding gowns. My great friend M. was the bride for our visit to the Monique Lhullier trunk show. And it’s a good thing. I’m a very average girl, about a size 8, with curves. M. is a gorgeous tall lean size 2. Just the perfect size to wear Monique Lhullier’s Fall ’08 line.
After seeing the runway presentation on Brides, I had high expectations about this season’s dresses. She really departed from her usual lace-and-sash-with-pickups-in-skirt style to try something different, which I appreciate. The gowns also looked like they had a great deal of flow and a bit less structure to them. Unfortunately, looks can be deceiving. M. tried on somewhere around 10-12 dresses. I was able to find pictures of eight of them. Out of the eight, an average size 8 girl like myself could wear 2.
Here are the dresses M. tried on, images courtesy of Brides:
Some of them were obvious (top row middle – I’ve never worn a sheath like that in my life), but the rest — honestly, I had hopes. But the lining of the dresses, no matter what the dress shape, is a tightly fitting sheath. If you’re shaped like M., I’m jealous of you, and you’re lucky! Her dresses will look fantabulous on you. If you’re not, I wouldn’t even bother. If it were me trying them on I would’ve been depressed. BUT, since it wasn’t, my day was blissful. :)
